How to paint popcorn
Then, there comes the challenge of successfully painting over popcorn ceilings due to the constraint of applying the paint and managing the resulting mess from the entire process. Here we will show you the professional process of painting over popcorn ceilings without making so much mess in your home.
Painting tool checklist
Popcorn Painting Tools: The importance of assembling your tools way before you commence work cannot be overemphasized. The tools you would use for your work determine how effective the work would be. For painting over popcorn ceilings, the tools you would need are; a step ladder, plastic sheeting for covering specific areas, dust mask for your mouth and nostrils, protective eye wear, vacuum with a dust brush attached, paintbrush, paint roller/nap with extension handle, paint and flat head screwdriver. Getting your tools ready means you’ll have them on hand when you need them.
Preparing to Paint Popcorn: When rolling paint over popcorn ceilings, the texture is bound to cause a splattering of paint on the surrounding walls. To avoid getting paint all over your walls, consider taping plastic sheeting on the walls to provide a form of coverage from the splattering paint. After this has been done, cover the floors of the room with drop cloths or the plastic sheeting. Also, consider covering and masking ceiling fixtures such as electrical appliances and chandeliers with plastic sheeting or painter’s tape. Painting preparation is key!

Prep for Painting Popcorn Ceilings: Using the vacuum and attached duster, clean off the dust in the crevices of the popcorn ceiling and make sure there are no specks anywhere that would spoil the painting. After removing the dust, you may commence with the application of the paint using the roller with the handle extension and paint brush. To paint in the corners, use the flat brush. Apply plenty paint on the brush as not to remove too much texture, and around the corners with a light gentle touch.
